Autumn Leaves

I've been wanting to get back to the east coast to see the fall foliage for years now. I finally get to go in October, and the leaves--which normally could be worryingly past peak right now--are waiting me out. Except for the ones turning brown and then hitting the ground, skipping the glorious color part. Spiteful things, lol.

Too much to say

I've had some wonderful things happen to me personally recently as well as some pretty bad things. But now it's not completely about me.

My birthday is Sunday. I usually have a big deal made out of it, which I like :) But I think this year I may have to celebrate it a bit later.

Astrological friends, hope my "solar return" isn't as bumpy as the recent days have been!

I'm in the state of Rhode Island now. Both of my parents came from here and I went to college here, as well as also lived here for a year in my childhood after my father died. I always loved it here for some reason and had actually planned to live here after college, but undiagnosed lupus had other plans!

However, my current visit is due to family crises. It is my mother's family that I know and which I am here to hopefully support a little bit.

I have two aunts that are in critical health conditions, as well as one cousin who is the son of one of these aunts.
I also have another, female cousin who is experiencing illness herself. And I have an uncle and an aunt who have been in care facilities for a long time, but who were spoken for by one of the aunts who is seriously ill, meaning their situations have to be looked into. Six hot spots.

I hit the ground running here and have been doing my best to take in information and react to events as they come. Last night I was with aunt V. in the ER; today she is back in a nursing home. She has some serious diagnoses. Cousin L. yesterday got some info about his difficult eye condition and how it relates to his hydroencephalitis. He's got a serious diagnosis as well. I'm not going to relay the whole list at this time but will ask for prayers and good thoughts for everyone, if anyone is up to sending these.

I've had my own little dramas, naturally. When I picked up my rental car I followed my cousin's wife back to her and my cousin's house. I was in terror of being left behind when she got on the highway since I would have been hopelessly lost. But I think I may have been caught by a nasty red-light camera trap in the process. Just what I need with my massive losses this year, a ticket and an increase in my car ins. premiums? Sigh.

There are some steep stairs here up to the room I am staying in at my uncle's house (uncle married to one of my ill aunts and father of ill cousin L.) I knew I might have a problem with them and actually slipped on them on the way down, in the dark, at night to go to the bathroom. But it was not a serious slip and I was proud of myself when I got all the way down the stairs. Then I immediately walked into one of the suitcases of mine that were downstairs on the floor, flew over it, and smacked the left side of my face. Ugh. Lucky I didn't put my eye out; just hit the bone under it. My right wrist also isn't too happy with me hence not a lot of emails answered yet.

Today I got some of my prescriptions renewed; it only took two hours to count out pills and to get what I needed. I have to go back Monday for a prescription that had run out; they only gave me enough loaners till then! Hope doc is in on Monday! This all has to do with insurance which gives me 30 days of meds exactly and has me running to the pharmacy different times throughout the month. If I'm not at home the prescriptions have to be transferred here and transferred back later. There are some that I shouldn't skip a day of, but Medicare Part D isn't going to care. And if I end up back on Medi-Cal (Medicaid in CA) then I only get six meds covered, even though I need 10+. You know if I die, it could save the government money, so there is zero incentive to correct this.

Speaking of insurance I've been trying to wade through the misery of Medicaid for long-term care re my relatives--the only long-term care option most ppl have. Do YOU have long-term care insurance? Do you have parents who hope to leave you anything but who might need long-term care? It's a mess and will only get worse if the slash-and-burn-the-social-programs folks have their way. The people voting for them have forgotten that they are the ones who might need the programs.

Anyway, there is a five year wait before any transfers of property can be protective, if there are even assets which can be transferred (yours truly will probably get nothing safely left to her from anyone), so start now. Learn at http://www.longtermcare.gov

I'm keeping emotionally strong and have had a sudden break from my cognitive difficulties, and I would really like this to continue. But I'm physically exhausted. Zzzz. But I'm saying my own prayers for my family, before sleep.

P.S. I do have to mention that I got to take myself to Dunkin' Donuts (best coffee) and that my uncle made me amazing raviolis today. I love sauce that has nothing chili in it. Italian sauce.
