Obligatory Bio:
I was considered very intelligent while growing up and Destined to Do Great Things.
I got into an Ivy League college but was already falling apart with then-undiagnosed severe systemic lupus.
I did manage to graduate, barely, with a BA in International Relations and Economics.
I could not continue my studies due to illness as well as lack of money.
I then began to travel the hideous path of Life in America with a Serious Chronic Illness and No Private Health Coverage.
This road did not lead to a career.
It did lead me to some other interests such as politics and medicine.
I am a recovering former Republican! I think the GOP has changed a lot over the years and does not seem right now to care about people who are struggling financially.
I'm now an advocate for change to the US health care delivery system.
I am trapped into poverty, living on disability and fearing to make part-time work attempts that could cost me more than I would make due to complexities in my health insurance coverage.
As a volunteer, I have done my best to be useful when I am feeling well enough to do anything.
I have led support groups for people with rheumatic/autoimmune diseases continuously since 1986, and am happy to answer questions and/or provide support for people coping with these.
Since people who come to my group often ask what health conditions I deal with myself, I will list them here just for an fyi.
I know I would have died without modern medical treatment.
A lot of medications help me. But you can understand why I need medical insurance coverage.

Sjogren's syndrome,
Hashimoto's thyroiditis,
pituitary tumor (prolactinoma),
left ventricular hypertrophy,
Cushing's syndrome (from long-term prednisone use),
osteonecrosis,
severe hiatal hernia ,
GERD,
irritable bowel syndrome,
frequent migraines,
high LDL low HDL cholesterol,
restless legs syndrome,
asthma, and allergies,
major depression
and undoubtedly some other things I just can't remember right now.
